How many tanks does the E-6B have?
7
How many boost pumps are in each tank?
2 boost pumps in each main tank and the center tank
Liquid cooling system heat exchangers are located where?
Main tanks 2 and 3 and provide mission system cooling.
The LCS heat exchangers are supplied cooling fuel from which tanks?
From tank Nos. 1 and 4 engine fuel feed systems with engines having priority.
Heat exchangers for hydraulic fluid cooling are located where?
Main tanks Nos. 2 and 3.
Where are the two vent port outlets for each tank?
one at the forward inboard tank corner and the other at the center of the outboard tank edge.
The inboard outlet provides venting when?
during high angle climb attitudes and is always open.
The outboard outlet provides venting when?
during normal climb, cruise, and descent attitudes and is protected by a float vent valve to prevent fuel blow by gravity out the vent system at high pitch attitudes.
What are surge chambers?
they are in the spanwise vent ducts to trap fuel moving outboard b/c of rapid attitude changes or rolling of the a/c. Fuel drains back into the tanks when normal conditions are reestablished.
What does the crossfeed manifold allow?
allows fuel to flow from any main tank to any engine or from the center wing tank to any engine.
How can fuel be fed from any main fuel tank w/o the use of boost pumps?
fuel may be gravity fed from any main fuel tank w/o the use of boost pumps.
Center fuel tank cannot be used w/o what?
boost pumps
Fuel is fed to the APU how?
through the APU fuel feed line which is connected to main tank No. 3 for starting and the crossfeed manifold for operation with AC electrical power.
How many boost pumps are there?
there are two electrically operated boost pumps in each of the four main tanks and in the center tank.
The two center tank pumps deliver fuel how?
at a higher pressure than the main tank pumps and feed fuel to the engines, regardless of main tank pump settings, if the appropriate crossfeed valves are open.
What does the crossfeed manifold do?
allows fuel flow from any main tank to any engine or from the center wing tank to any engine.
Where are the crossfeed manifold valves?
mounted in the inboard dry bays, provide a means of directing fuel to more than one engine from any one tank except the reverses.
How are the dump chutes fed?
they are gravity fed and must be fully extended before fuel can be dumped. (dump rate decreases as fuel level decreases)
The reserve tank transfer valves open automatically when?
When dump valves for the main tank Nos. 1 and 4 open.
The master fuel switch must be in what position to use the ground gauges?
The master fuel switch must be ON to use the ground gauges.
The FE panel gauges are calibrated to be read correctly how?
with wing-level unaccelerated flight with 2 degree noseup pitch attitude.
What is the Total Fuel Remaining Gauge?
The gauge sums the signals from the engine fuel flow transmitters and subtracts that quantity from the "total" set in by the FE.
