Eppy Pen Use

1) remove the safety cap.


2) hold the pen flat in your fist.


3) forcefully depress the orange tipped end into the person's thigh (clothes or no clothes).


4) hold the pen for 10 seconds.

Heart Attack Signs

1) chest discomfort.


2) discomfort in body.


3) shortness of breath.


4) nausea.


5) cold sweats.

Heart Attach Treatment

1) calm the person.


2) call 911.


3) get first aid kit or AED (if possible).


4) if possible, give them an aspirin (unless bleeding or allergic).


5) if they need CPR, give CPR.

Think FAST

Seizure Signs

1) loss of muscle control.


2) fall to ground.


3) jerk arms, legs, other body parts.


4) stop responding.


5) prolonged day dreaming.

Seizure Treatments

1) ease them to the floor.


2) move furniture away.


DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THEIR MOUTH


3) place something soft under their head.


4) let the seizure run its course.


5) when over, place them on their side.

Shock (hypovolemic) Signs

1) faint, dizzy, or weak.


2) nauseous or thirsty.


3) pale or grayish skin.


4) restless, agitated, or confused.


5) cold and clammy.

Shock (hypovolemic) Treatment

1) lay them on their back.


2) keep them warm.


3) Give CPR if needed.


DO NOT GIVE THEM FOOD OR WATER.

Bleeding You Can See

1) apply direct pressure on the dressing.


2) keep pressure on the wound until it stops bleeding.


(IF the bleeding does not stop)


3) apply more dressing and press harder.


4) wrap a bandage around the wound to hold the dressing in place.

Premade Tourniquet Use

1) place the tourniquet 2" above injury.


2) tighten until bleeding stops.


3) note the time it is applied.


4) get medical help.


LEAVE THE TOURNIQUET ON.

It will cause pain as it stops the bleeding.

Making A Tourniquet

1) find a long cloth or bandage at least 1" wide.


2) wrap the bandage 2" above the injury.


3) tie the ends of the bandage around a stick-like-object.


4) turn the stick to tighten.


5. tighten until bleeding stops.

Bloody Nose Treatment

1) press both sides of the nose cartilage while they sit forward.


2) keep constant pressure until bleeding stops.

Amputation Treatment

1) rinse the dismembered part and bag it.


2) place that bag inside a bag of ice.


3) label it.

Broken Bone Treatment

R: rest it.


I: immobilize it.


C: cold (ice it).


E: elevate it.


Apply a splint.

Ice Application

20 minutes of contact with ice max.

Head Injury Signs

1) does not respond.


2) acts sleepy or confused.


3) vomits.


4) complains of a headache.


5) vision trouble.


6) movement (walking) trouble.


7) has a seizure.

Head Injury Treatment

1) call 911.


2) minimize the movement of head-neck.

Small Burns Treatment

1) cool it immediately with cool water.


2) keep the burn under running water until the pain stops.


3) dress the burn with a dry dressing.

Large Burns Treatment

1) if on fire, put the fire out.


2) remove jewelry and clothing not stuck to the skin.


3) cover the person with a dry blanket.


4) check for signs of shock.

Electrical Injury Treatment

1) call 911.


ENSURE THAT IT IS SAFE TO TOUCH THE PERSON.


2) give CPR, if needed.


3) get advanced medical help.

Snakebite Treatment

1) call 911.


2) keep the person calm.


3) remove any tight clothing or jewelry.


4) gently wash the bitten area with running water (and soap if available).


DO NOT SUCK OUT VENOM.

Tick Removal

1) grab the tickets by its head and mouth.


2) lift the tick straight out.


3) wash the bite with running water (and soap if available).


4) seek medical attention.

Heat Related Emergency

Progression: Cramps>Exhaustion>Stroke


1) rest and cool off.


2) have them drink something with sugar and electrolytes (like juice or sports drinks).

3) removal as much clothing as possible.


4) cool the person with water spray or with a damp cloth.

5) call 911.


6) put the person in cool water neck deep.


7) give CPR if needed.

Frostbite Treatment

1) remove tight clothing and jewelry from the frostbitten area.


2) remove wet clothing and pat dry.


3) put dry clothes on the person and cover with a blanket.


4) do not try to thaw a frozen part if there is a chance of refreezing.

Hypothermia Signs

1) skin is cool to touch.


2) shivering (shivering stops when body temperature is dangerously low).


3) confusion or drowsy.


4) personality change.


5) muscles are stiff and rigid.


6) skin ice cold and blue.


7) breathing slows.

Hypothermia Treatment

1) get person out of the cold.


2) remove wet clothing and dry them.


3) dry clothes on and cover with blanket.


4) call 911.


5) wrap the person up with anything you have.


6) give CPR if needed.

Allergic Reaction Signs

Mild:


1) stuffy nose, sneezing, itching.


2) itching skin.


3) raised red rash (hives).


- Severe:


4) trouble breathing.


5) swelling.


6) signs of shock.
