Materials to build housing were not easily available They used small blocks of earth called SODS which were dug from the ground. They were named sod busters. They were strong and stood up to tough weather. It took about 1 acre to dig enough sods to make a house |

They were very important, they were even given the vote They made cleaning tools from naturaul resourses on the plains e.g urine, manure, roasted mice. Women brought society together, mixed families and celebrating events lik harvest and childbirth. Women were teachers and demanded education and good behaviour. |

Railroads brought law and order Trade improved with countries in the east by having rail links Made it easier for migrants to settle on the plains and for the USAto achieve manifest destiny Commuication - families could stay in touch Better quailty goods could be transported to people |
