Distributive Selection

A sudden change in environment causing a population to split sometimes creating a new species

Stabilizing Selection

Genetic diversity decreases and the population begins to adapt a specific trait

Directional Selection

directional selection is a mode of natural selection in which an extreme phenotype is favored over other phenotypes, causing the allele frequency to shift over time in the direction of that phenotype.

Divergent Evolution

Accumulation of traits in a population that might lead to a new species.

Convergent Evolution

Separate species gaining the same adaptations e.g. (wings, flippers)

Homeostasis

the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes.

Homologous Structure

when very different animals have bones that appear very similar in form or function and seem to be related

Analogous Structure

Body part in different species that is similar in function but not instructure that evolved in response to a similar environmental challenge
