What's the difference between EEC normal and alternate mode?

Normal mode: EEC uses N1/EPR to set thrust for a given thrust lever position. Max thrust is constantly computed.

Soft alternate: EEC schedules N1 as a function of thrust lever position and so thrust doesn't change for a fixed thrust lever position

Hard alternate: Ref/target N1, max N1 and commanded N1 are displayed. Thrust may change to set required N1. A/T will not overboost but the pilot may.

Can you over boost the engine in normal or alternate modes?

Normal, no.

Alternate yes, as Max thrust is reached at an intermediate thrust lever position

How does the EEC provide N1 and N2 overspeed protection?

By commanding a reduced fuel flow

What do the fuel control switches control during engine start?

Starter air valves, ignition and fuel flow. Spar valve opens initially then EEC opens engine valve at the appropriate time

What parameter does the auto start system NOT monitor on the GE90 engine?

Oil temperature.

How many times will the autostart make attempts to start an engine in flight?

Continuously until the fuel control switch is moved to cutoff

How many Ignitors per engine? And how many are used for start?

2.

One if the aeroplane is on the ground (unless subsequent start attempt)

2 for inflight starts

How is a flame out detected by the EEC?

Rapid decrease in N2

Where is fuel flow measured?

Downstream of the engine fuel valve.

What does the EICAS 'ENGINE OIL FILTER L/R' mean?

Oil has bypassed the oil filter due to a clog.

What is the minimum oil quantity?

No minimum

What happens when the reverse thrust levers are pulled into the interlock position?

Autothrottle disengages

Auto speedbrakes deploy (if they didn't already with WoW)

Valve opens for htdraluc fluid to open the reverse sleeve. Once fully opened and locked, REV green appears and further reverse is available.

What is the difference between EICAS messages 'ENG REV LIMITED' and 'ENG REVERSER'?

ENG REV LIMITED appears in advance to warn reverser cannot deploy when commanded or only to idle.

ENG REVERSER displays on ground to indicate a reverser system fault

When will a red 'ENGINE FAIL' appear on the PFD during takeoff?

From 65kts to V1-6kts if actual thrust is less than commanded.

What happens when main fuel tank pump pressure is low but with sufficient fuel in tanks?

Suction feed. Prone to cavitation but is expected to dissipate once at cruise altitude.

How much fuel is left in each main tank after jettison (minimum)?

3800kg or 5200kg depending on 777 variant

Does the GE engine have continuous ignition?

No

What is the minimum oil pressure?

10psid

How many attempts does the auto start system make on the ground before aborting?

3 then motors for 30 seconds

During a manual start, when should the fuel control switch be selected to run?

At N2 maximum motoring (when acceleration is less than 1% in 5 seconds)

How is the pilot action different for inflight x-bleed starts and windmill starts?

X-bleed - use start selector then fuel control switch.

For windmill start, select only the fuel control switch to run

How does the thrust reverser actuate when the lever is pulled?

The lever commands the EEC to open an isolation valve allowing hydraulic pressure to move the reverser sleeve

Can the thrust reverser lever be pulled straight into full reverse from closed?

No. There is an interlock preventing full reverse until the sleeves are deployed.

When will speed brakes deploy on landing if not selected in the armed detent?

When thrust reverse is selected

What indicators are there on EICAS that thrust reverser are in transit?

An amber REV replaces the digital thrust value

What does a blank indication where REV is usually indicated mean?

Reverser position is not available or the information is invalid

What does the EICAS caution message ‘ENG REV LIMITED L’ mean?

EEC advising that the left reverser either will not deploy or reverse thrust will be limited to idle.

What is the cause of a thrust reverse lever unable to extend past idle reverse?

There was a fault in transit of the respective reverser sleeve

When is the auto-relight function activated?

When the EEC detects an engine flameout

On the 777-300, what is the red line on the EGT?

MAX T/O EGT : 920c for 20 seconds or 900c for 5 mins (OEI is 900c for 10mins)

On the 777-300 what is the amber line on the EGT?

Max Continuous EGT (850c)

Does the Trent 800 autostart system monitor oil pressure or temperature?

No. Oil pressure must rise after EGT increases otherwise abort the start.

What level must the oil temperature reach before take off?

Lower Amber line

When will both igniters become energized by the EEC?

Temperature drop in the HP compressor cause by significant rain/hail ingestion

Under what condition will the EEC shut down the Trent 800 engine?

When LP compressor speed differs from LP turbine. This is to avoid an shaft overspeed resulting in an uncontained engine failure

If reverse thrust is used for a RTO in the -300, is a further takeoff permitted?

No. Maintenance action required

What is the maximum oil temperature on the RR engines?

191 degrees

How long after reverse thrust levers are down is TOGA still armed?

Until flaps are up.
