Lithium and diuretics

Diuretics exacerbate Na loss and predispose a client to Lithium toxicity

MAO inhibitors

Do not give with foods that contain tyramine, OTC meds containing ephedrine or pseudoephederine; do not give with SSRI, CNS depressants like alcohol; med causes lower seizure threshold and urinary retention

Ginkgo biloba and Coumadin

May cause uncontrollable bleeding

Benzodiazepines and alcohol

Can potentiate CNS depressant effect and could lead to extreme sedation and lethal overdose

NSAIDS and diuretics

NSAIDs reduce diuretic effect

Digoxin and diuretics

Digoxin toxicity can occur in the presence of hypokalemia, which could be caused by diuretics

NSAIDs and ACE inhibitors

Use of NSAIDs may decrease the antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors

Diuretics and ACE inhibitors

Combined, these may cause orthostatic HTN

Penicillin allergy and cephalosporins

Pts with PCN allergies may also react to cephalosporins

NSAIDs allergy and aspirin

Pts with NSAID allergies may also react to aspirin
