Health

defined by the WHO as ' a state of complete physical, social and mental wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.'

Physical Health

refers to the state of the physical body. it is more about the way our body functions on the inside. e.g good mobility and coordination

Social Health

being able to interact with others and participate in the community in both an independent and cooperative way.

Mental Health

state wellbeing in which the individual raises their own abilities, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively, and is able to make a contribution to themselves.

Factors that influence health

Hereditary: passed down genes from parents


Environment: air (pollution), water & climate etc


Lifestyle: good diet, sleep and exercise


Socio-economic conditions : includes income, nutrition, employment and housing





Hereditary

they are inherited characteristics, passed on through the senses through biological parents. e.g cancer, diabetes

Environmental

things that are behavioural. this means they are outside factors such as the environment we live in or habits we establish. e.g smoking, sun exposure, oral hygiene, poor diet, lack of exercise.
