atrophy:
shrinkage of cells caused by disuse or neurological damage.
hypertrophy:
enlargement of cells caused by cardiac conditions or exercise
hyperplasia:
increase in RBC count caused by high altitudes and uterine issues
Why do high altitudes cause an increase in the body's RBC count?
There is not as much oxygen in the air so more cells are created to carry the oxygen.
metaplasia:
changes in cells caused by chronic irritation.

Ex: smoking causes columnar cells to change to squamous (flatter) epitheilium.
dysplasia:
-disorderly growth of cells
-precancerous
-a biopsy is usually needed to determine malignancy
