Decribe the pathogenesis of porphyrias |
There are eight different types and each is due to the parital deficiency of one of the enzymes involved in haem synthesis. The enzyme deficiency results in the overproduction and increased excretion of toxic haem precursors (porphrins and/or their precursors) |
