What is matter?

Matter is any substance that has mass and occupies space

What are the three states of matter?

Solid, liquid and gas

State the properties of a solid

The particles in a solid are closely packed in a regular way, it has a strong force of attraction, has low kinetic energy, difficult to compress, has a definite shape and a definite volume

State the properties of a liquid

There are small spaces between liquid particles, has a moderate force of attraction, medium kinetic energy so particles move slowly, slightly compressed, has a definite shape and takes the shape of its container and has a definite volume.

State the properties of a gas

Its particles are far apartand randomly arranged, has a weak force of attraction, has high kinetic energy so particles move rapidly, easily compressed, has a variable shape and volume

What is osmosis?

The movement of water molecules from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration through a semi-permeable membrane

What is the particulate theory of matter?

-All matter is made up of prticles

-The particles are in constant motion

-There are spaces between the particles

-There are forces of attraction and repulsion between the particles

What is diffusion?

The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration until evenly distributed
