-People cannot commit more crimes -It protects society from dangerous+violent criminals -Prisoners have a chance to reflect on their actions and reform -Deters others who may be thinking of committing crime -The government needs to show it has a tough stance against crime -It punishes people by separating them from their friends and family |

What are some disadvantages of prison? |
-Relationships can break down -Prisoners may reoffend when released -Prisoners breed resentment, bitterness and a determination to 'get back' at society -Offenders families suffer through no falut of their own -Prisoners often educate each other in criminal matters in prison -Prison records make it harder for offenders to get a job on release which leads them back to crime. |
