Resin modified

Introduced late 1980s

Composition

Polycarboxylic acid polymer

Flouroaluminosilicate glass

Water

Hydrophilic methcrylate monomer

Free radical initiators

Light cures

Nanoionomer

-Latest advancement and commercially available GIC since 2007

- material is RMGIC which there are nanomers and nanoclusters

- addition of nanoparticles improve polishability and optical characterisrics of cured ionomer

Clinical applications for GIC

Main indications

- small lesions (long term non stress bearing restorations in permanent teeth)

- interim restoration of permanent teeth

- excellent liner or base in all deep lesions , sandwiching or layering

- class 5 restoration and abfraction lesions

- direct fillin as well as core buildup

Decreased amount of unreacted Y lead to

Decreased strength

Increased settin expansion

Increased creep

Decreased corrosion resistance

Nb

- increase mecury leads to to increase amount of y1 and y2

- decreased amount of unreacted Y
