D _ _
U _ _
F _ _ _ W _ _ _
D _
R _
A _ _ _ _ _
The six major types of connectors are:

DIN - Deutsche Industrie Norm
USB - Universal Serial Bus
FireWire - IEEE 1394
DB - (D-Shaped serial/parallel connector)
RJ - registered jack
Audio
How would you describe a port, a plug, a jack and a connector?
a port accepts a plug and usually has holes into which the plug fits. The plug usually has projections such as pins that are inserted into the port. A jack is an alternate for port so you can insert a plug into a jack/port. A connector can be either a jack/port or a plug.
What are mini-DIN connectors used for?
Most PCs use the European designed mini-DIN for keyboards and mice. They used to use a bigger version called a DIN that is not very common any more.
What does the acronym DIN stand for?
Deutsche Industrie Norm
USB connectors come in three sizes. What are they and what size is always inserted into the actual USB port on the PC?
USB (Universal Serial Bus) connectors come in three sizes which are A, B and Mini-B. The A-sized USB connector is always inserted into the USB port on the actual PC.
With regard to USB connectors which is upstream and which is downstream?
The plug is upstream and the ports are downstream. The USB B plug goes downstream to the devices and the USB B ports provide upstream output from the device to the host or hub.
Why did manafactures create both B and Mini-B USB plugs?
The USM B plugs are kinda large for small devices, so the Mini-B is generally used to connect small devices such as cell phones and cameras
What are three nice features that make USB connectors popular on PCs?
USB devices are hot-swappable so you don't need to turn off and restart your pc to use them. Second, many USB devices get power from the USB connector and don't need to use batteries or power cables, and many devices can even be recharged via USB.
FireWire is term coined by Apple for the IEEE ____ connector. It can move data at incredibly high speeds making it popular for streaming video via a digital video camera. FireWire come in three forms of plugs, what are they?
6-wire, 9-wire for devices that need more speed and a 4-pin version usually seen on peripherals.
USB is hot-swappable, what about FireWire ?
Both FireWire and USB are hot-swappable.
DB connectors have been used for almost every type of peripheral you can think of except ________.
DB connectors have been used for almost every type of peripheral you can think of except keyboards.
What is peculiar about DB connectors that make them easy to recognize?
DB connectors have a slight D shaped plug.
What is the technical name for DB connectors?
The technical name for DB connectors is D-Sub or D-Subminiature. But most techs call them DBs
Female DB plugs connect to male DB ports on the PC and can have from _ to __ pins or sockets, but you rarely see one with more than __ pins or sockets. DB connectors are some of the oldest and most common connectors used on the back of PCs.
Female DB plugs connect to male DB ports on the PC and can have from 9 to 37 pins or sockets, but you rarely see one with more than 25 pins or sockets. DB connectors are some of the oldest and most common connectors used on the back of PCs.
What is another name for the 1/8-inch connector used to connect microphones and speakers to the PC?
The 1/8-inch connector used to connect microphones and speakers to a PC is called a mini-audio connector. The port is usually referred to as a mini-audio 'jack' (which is just another way of saying port) and the plug is called a mini-audio plug.
