#_ RUD HYD
either rudder actuator has lost rudder presssure. No longer has adequate pressure available to the actuator
ROLL SPLR ____ HYD
Lets say that perhaps the spoilers on #__ hyd system are possibly jammed in the extended position.
1. Memory Action Items:
- UNCOMMANDED ROLL?
- ROLL CONTROL JAM?

This caution light (ROLL SPLR ____ HYD) illuminates, indicating the removal of extend pressure to the spoiler system, but allowing steady 'retract' pressure to be applied.

Lets say hydraulic pressure is lost to the spoiler systems.
1. Checklist instructs crew to push the Roll Spoiler Pressure switchlight (under FO yoke). ROLL SPLR ____ HYD caution light will illuminate AGAIN, and 'OFF' will illuminate on Roll Spoiler Pressure switchlight.
SPLR 1 or SPLR 2
Terminal Clutch Release.
There may be a malfunction in the linkage that mechanically operates the four spoilers. The Terminal Clutch Release allows operation of the remaining Spoilers after isolating the jammed spoiler...
SPLR 1 and SPLR 2
1. ROLL DISCONNECT HANDLE has been pulled.
2. FO's yoke has exceeded 50 degrees of travel (left or right).
3. Now both SPLR 1 and SPLR 2 must be pressed, and 4. FO must now fly the aircraft.
CABIN DUCT HOT
1. WELL... the cabin duct senses overtemp condition
2. The #1 AFT pack (300) driven toward closed position
OR
2. PACK valves (200) driven closed
FLT COMPT DUCT HOT
1. overtemp in flight compartment supply duct
2. #2 FWD pack (300) driven closed
OR
2. Trim valves (200) closed
CABIN PACK HOT
(300) Air Cycle Machine in rear has too much cooling demand
1. Associated PRSOV will close... so the #1 AFT PRSOV in this case
FLT COMPT PACK HOT
(300) Air Cycle Machine in rear has too much cooling demand
Associated PRSOV will close... so the #2 FWD PRSOV
AIR COND PACK HOT
Air Cycle Machine has overheated due to cooling demands...
1. BOTH HPSOV and Nacelle Shut Off valves, from both engines close.
LND GEAR INOP
failure of Landing Gear door sequencing Valve.
Checklist calls for Alt Gear Ext Met.1
NOSE STEERING
Cycle Nose Wheel Steering switch.

If inop, 11-20 kt tailwind prohibited!
_____ ANTI SKID
If illuminated, check Anti Skid switch
If INOP, 11-20 kt tailwind prohibited
Reduced Trq Takeoff Prohibited
__ STALL WARNING
stall warning system by DC bus...
If illuminated, DC power, Lift Transducer or Lift Computer Failed...
Stick shaker activation is unaffected; interconnected...
FLAP POWER
Loss of 'normal' hyd pressure to Flap Power Unit.
Flaps will still function, however, there is less than 1500 psi powering flap power unit
FLAP DRIVE
Failure of Primary shaft
Secondary shaft will provide flap movement
#__ ENG MANUAL
ECU Reverts Fuel Control to Manual.
Uptrim possibly added
Loss of ECU functions also include
Fuel scheduling reverts to manual control
loss of UPTRIM capabilities (automatically added to opposite engine)
#__ FUEL FLTR BYPASS
Filter automatically bypassed
#__ BLEED HOT
Associated engine HPSOV and Nacelle SOV will close.
#__ AC GEN
AC GCU takes Generator offline.
AC Cross Tie closes
#__DC GEN
DC GCU takes Gen offline.
Main bus tie closes
LEFT MAIN DC BUS FAULT
1. Main and Main-Secondary Bus Tie closure INHIBITED
2. BBPS waits 7-10 seconds...
(DC BUS + #1 MAIN DC BUS + AUX BATT + AUX INV)
3. BBPS sends signal to affected Generator's GCU
4. Generator (L DC GEN) taken offline
4.
RT MAIN DC BUS FAULT
-
#__ ENG FUEL PRESS
Pressure of fuel going to Main Engine Driven Fuel Pump is low
DEICE PRESS
Loss of deice pressure to deice boot system.
By isolating the valves, deicing can still be supplied to engine intakes, inboard wing sections, and tail
Checklist says avoid Boots 1 & 2
Tell me about the PTU
Power Transfer Unit
Used for alternate gear retraction (#2 Engine Failure + Gear Handle selected UP)
Used for Alternate Gear Extension (method 2)
Motor is powered by #1 hyd system. Pump pressurizes #2 hyd system fluid
What is ARPS
Alternate Rudder Power System.
Model 201 Dash 8's were redesigned with the #2 stby hyd pump in the empennage.
This allows rudder movement in the event of catastrophic fluid failure.
A Rudder Shut Off Valve (RSOV) closes automatically (18psi consumer) if fluid (not pressure) is lost from #2 hyd system.
Hyd Fluid is trapped between RSOV, #2 SPU, and Upper Rudder Actuator.
Explain AutoFeather Sequence.
1. AutoFX is Armed.
2. Both power levers advanced above 38% torque and a certain Power Lever Angle
3. One of the Engines falls below 28% torque.
AUTOFEATHER SEQUENCE WILL BEGIN, provided both power levers are still at Takeoff Power
4. UPtrim Automatically added to opposite engine
5. 3 second pause
6. Auxiliary Feather Pump activates for 18 seconds
7. Signal Condition Unit (SCU) on failed engine increases coarse oil
and Feather Solenoid valve opens to DUMP FINE PITCH oil
8.
What is emergency Ram air Ventilation? How does it work?
Ram air ventilation is provided by the NACA Vents on the vertical stabilizer, which scoop air as the aircraft travels.
It can provide airflow through cabin air supply duct in the event of depressurization.
Pressurization however, cannot be supplied.
High airflow (fly fast or descend) + Open FWD Outflow valve can help ventilation

Normally Ram Air is for cooling Heat Exchangers.
Tell me about Prop Heat.
Prop heat is provided by 115V Var AC power.
Through heater elements bonded to leading edge of blade
The Prop Heat has two timers, and the #2 is the 'Master'.
- When temp is >10C ... Heat is applied for 10 seconds to blade pairs (1&3 then 2&4),
- When temp <10C... Heat is applied for 20 seconds to blade pairs (same),
- 60 second cool down time must lapse between blade heating
- WOW prevents Prop Heat overheat on ground. Heat Test overrides this.
What does selecting Main Bus Tie to TIE do?
Connects Left and Right Main DC buses.
This can allow #1 engine start first when conducting battery start (if APU and #2 DC Gen or #2 ECU mel'd)
Green light for Ext. Power?
DC external power is being received.
Selecting External power switch to on closes the bus ties and allows for DC power to be sent to all Buses (essential, secondary, and main)
Why would Takeoff Warning Horn sound?
Power levers advanced >50%, WOW, and... one of these

Condition Levers not at Max
Park Brakes Set
ECU not at TOP
Elevator Trim out of normal range

Why would Gear Warning Horn sound?
Gear not down and Locked and
1. Power Levers less than Takeoff Position + AutoFX OFF + Flaps >15

2. One or Power Levers at Flt Idle + Airspeed <130kts (May be Silenced)
Pressurization Modes and Operation?
Auto: Cabin Altitude Controller (CAC) controlls Normal (rear) outflow valve to control cabin pressure

Semi-Auto: Cab Set. you can control the rate of climb of the Cabin Altitude. Use the Cabin-Altitude Conversion scale. Min/Max knob should still be at Min (full counter clockwise).

Manual: Only mode to use FWD (Safety) Outflow valve

Dump: Normal Outflow valve fully open
