Transactional Communication Model
There is a "Sender", "Message", and a "Receiver". Someone "encodes" the message and the other "decodes" the message.
Principles of Communication

1. Intentional and unintentional.


2. Impossible not to communicate.


3. Irreversible- can't erase message once received.


4. Unrepeatable- unique event each time.


5. Complex process- Bar Lund's- "six people".

Three Components of Messages

1. Content- meanings of words themselves.


2. Affect- senders emotional state.


3. Relational- how sender views relationship to receive.

person as a unique individual.

Meta-Communication

Communicating about communication;


discussing the process.
