control group
part of an experiment for which the independent variable is not changed. Control groups are under "normal" conditions and are used for conpatisons.

cell theory
1.the cell is the basic unit of life
2.all living things are composed of one or more cells
3.all cells come from preexisting cells
What is a cell?
a membrane covered structure that has all of the necessary for life.athey can be specialized to perform specific functions.
Nucleus
houses the cells DNA- controls everything the cell does and contains the DNA
(grows , divides, regulates what goes in and out of the cell....)
mitochondria
an organelle that converts glucose into energy for the cell
Chloroplast
an organelle that takes energy from the sun and converts it into chemical energy (glucose) for a plant.
cell membrane
The thin layer of protein and fat that surrounds the cell and allows some substances to pass into the cell and blocking others
cell wall
a structure made of cellulose that surrounds the cell membrane of some cells and provides strength and support to the cell membrane.
cytoplasm
jelly-like fluid inside the cell that holds and protects the cells organelles
vacuole
fluid filled, membrane-surroumded cavities inside a cell that fills with food being digested and waste material that is on its way out of the cell
homeostasis
Is the maintenence of a constant internal environment when outside conditions change
(stable internal enviroment)
