The elected presiding officer of the House and the acknowledged leader of its majority party.
President of the Senate

serves in the Vice President's absence in the Senate

legislative strategists. steer the floor action to their parties' benefit
whip
their job is to check with party members and advise the floor leader of the number of votes that can be counted on in a particular matter

filibuster
an attempt to "talk a bill to death." A stalling tactic
cloture
limiting debate; provided in Rule XXII
veto
refuse to sign; deny a bill
pocket veto
if Congress adjourns its session within 10 days of submitting a bill to the President, and the President doesn't act, the measure dies.
