Explain inheritance based on paired factors

These factors are referred to as the alleles of a gene. one factor, or allele, for each gene comes from each sex cell. the union of two different alleles in offspring in the formation of new combinations of alleles in succeeding generations could be explained and supported by cellular evidence. this could help explain Mendels law of segregation and law of independent assortment

What is an AutoSome

Chromosome not involved in sex determination

What are linked genes

Genes that are located on the same chromosome

What is the chromosomal theory of inheritance

Chromosomes carry genes the units of heredity.

Paired chromosomes segregate during meiosis. each sex cell or gamete has half the number of chromosomes found in the somatic cells. this explains why each gamete has only one of each of the paired alleles

What are sex linked traits

They are traits that is determined by genes located on the sex chromosomes

What is a recessive lethal

It is a treat that, when both recessive alleles are present, result in death or severe malformation of the offspring. usually recessive traits occur more frequently in males

What is a barr body

It is a small dark spot of chromatin located in the nucleus of a female mammalian cell

What does heterozygous mean

Having different alleles for the same gene

What does homozygous mean

Having identical alleles for the same gene

A recessive trait located on the ___ chromosome is more likely to express itself in males than females since mills need only one copy of the recessive allele while females need two

X

Female somatic cells can be identified by what

Barr bodies which are actually dormant X chromosomes
