What is an octet and why is it important

Octet means the valence electrons of an atom are 8. This is important since all atoms want to become noble gases. Noble gases are all and only octets.

Whats the difference between cation and anion?

Cation means posotively charged ion (less electrons)

Anion means negatively charged ion (more electrons)

How do metals become noble gases?

Can only lose their valence electrons

How do non metals become noble gases?

They can only gain electrons to their valence shell
