Top-mass number Bottom-atomic number Ex 131 I 53 |
What is an octet and why is it important |
Octet means the valence electrons of an atom are 8. This is important since all atoms want to become noble gases. Noble gases are all and only octets. |
Whats the difference between cation and anion? |
Cation means posotively charged ion (less electrons) Anion means negatively charged ion (more electrons) |
How do metals become noble gases? |
Can only lose their valence electrons |
How do non metals become noble gases? |
They can only gain electrons to their valence shell |
