Theory

Theory is the substitution for a part of reality that's not yet known or understood and it proposes and explanation for a phenomenon

Theory's Criteria

Acceptable theories must be logical and it must show congruence between the present body of knowledge and the theoretical constructs. The data collected must be accurate, reliable and replicable. As the body of knowledge increase, theoretical adjustments are made to overcome the contradictions within the scientific society


Dalton's Atomic Theory

1. All matter is made up of atoms. Atoms indivisible and indestructible



2. All atoms of a given element is identical in mass and properties



3. Atoms combine chemically in simple whole number ratios to form compounds



4. Atoms can combine in more than one simple whole number ratios
