Hydrogen bonds

The attraction between an oxygen or nitrogen atom and a nearby hydrogen atom that is sharing electrons with a different oxygen or nitrogen atom.

Solvent

Water is a common one

Nonelectrolytes

Ethyl alcohol is an example because it does not produce ions when mixed with water.

Equivalent

A mole of charge. One mole of calcium ions, for instance, contains two moles of charge.

Weak electrolytes

A compound such as acetic acid that breaks apart into ions only to a small extent when it dissolves in water.

Saturated solution

A solution that contains the maximum amount or solute possible at a given temperature.

Strong electrolyte

A compound such as sodium Nitrate that exists almost exclusively as separate ions when it dissolves in water.
