The Cytoskeleton

Network of protein filaments that extend throughout the cytosol.



Divided into microfilaments, intermediate filaments and microtubles.



Functions to anchor integral proteins in the plasma membranse as well as providing strength and function to protrusions such as cilia,microvilli and flagella

Microfilaments

Composed of actin and function in movement and mechanical support.

Intermediate filaments

Are composed of several different proteins and function in support and to help anchor organelles such as the nucleus.

Microtubles

are composed of a protein called tublin and help determine cell shape and function in the intracellular transport of organelles and the migration of chromosome during cell division

Centrosome

Located near the nucleus, consists of two centrioles and percentriolar material

Cilia

Short, hair-like projections from the cell surface, move fluids along a cell surface

Flagella

Longer than cilia, move an entire cell; only example is the sperm cell's tail.
