There are many reasons for the independent spirit of early Greeks. The two communities were isolated from each other by a large mountain. They were never able to decide on one single government which led to frequent wars between the city-states.

Education was important in ancient Greece because it helped promote the growth of democracy in Athens. Education was only offered to boys because females were not citizens

Sparta and Athens had many differences. Sparta was a city-state based of military, fighting, and war. Athens was different because they offered education to citizens, and they valued music, dance, and arts. Sparta's values affected their government so they have a Oligarchy government which is being told what to do by one person. Athens lifestyle also affected there government. Athenians value the other people so they have a democracy government so some of the power is given to the people.
