Cell Wall |
A rigid nonliving material that helps and protect the cell. Made of cellulose |
Cell Membrane |
Keeps things in and keeps things out. Every cell has this. For certain cells without a wall the membrane is the wall. |
Nucleus |
Known as the brains of the cell. |
Nuclear Envelope |
Surrounds the Nucleus and has pores that can enter through. Can also be thought of as a wall. |
Chromatin |
A thin strand of genetic material that the nucleus uses to direct certain parts of the cell. |
Nucleolus |
Produces ribosome. |
Cytoplasm |
The area between the nucleus and the membrane. It's a clear, thick, gel like fluid. Many cellular organelles(search up if you don't know) can be found there. |
Mitochondria |
Rod-shaped like organelle that can be thought of as the powerhouse of the cell. It converts food to energy the cell uses. |
Endoplasmic Reticulum (Smooth and Rough) |
The Endoplasmic Reticulum is a passage ways for energy/protein to be transported around the cell. Smooth: Doesn't have ribosomes sticking to the side of ER Rough: Does have ribosomes sticking to the side of the ER |
Ribosomes |
Either attached to the ER or floating in the Cytoplasm, the ribosomes main job is to produce proteins for the cell. Proteins are transfered to the Golgi Bodies |
Golgi Bodies |
Golgi Bodies are sacs and tubes that take nutrition and distributes them to other parts of the cell. |
Chloroplasts(only found in plants and some other organelles) |
Large/Green, takes energy from the sun and uses it to produce proteins. |
Vacuoles |
Storage area for cells (waste, food, etc.) |
Lysosomes |
Small and round, breaks down materials in the cell like food. It can also break down old parts of the cell and reuse them. Think of them as the cleanup crew. |
