14 Cards in this Set

  • Front
  • Back

Cell membranes

Regulates the movement of substances in and out of the cells, can be folded into microvilli to increase surface area for absorption

Nucleus

Contains DNA providing the instructions of protein synthesis

Mitochondrion

Cristae that increase surface are for absorption, contains the matrix that contains respiratory enzymes for use in aerobic respiration producing ATP

Chloroplast

Contains the stroma site of light independent reaction. Thylakoid discs stacked into grana contain chlorophyll and is the site of light independent reaction of photosynthesis

Golgi apparatus

Sorts, modifies and packages the lipids/proteins produced by the RER and SER

Vesicles

Constantly pinched off side of golgi, transport molecules

Lysosomes

Destroy unwanted or damaged structures and pathogens

Ribosomes

Protein synthesis

RER

Covered in ribosomes for the transport and synthesis of proteins

SER

Transport and synthesis of lipids

Cell Wall

Made up of cellulose (plants and algae) or chitin (fungi), provides strength and rigidity to the cell and to withstand pressure

Vacuole

Contains cell sap, used for storage and maintain cell shape

Algal cells

Contain flagella, chloroplast, cell wall and can be multicellular or unicellular

Fungal cells

Can be multicellular or unicellular, cell wall made of chitin, no chloroplast
