Nucleus |
Control center of the cell--it controls all the cell's activities. It also contains the DNA which is like the blueprint for proteins for the cell |
Chromosomes |
The directions that the cell uses to create new cells or cell parts. They pass on traits to new cells. |
Nucleolus |
This part makes the ribosomes of the cell |
Nuclear membrane |
The thin skin that surrounds the nucleus. It holds all the parts of the nucleus in the nucleus and controls what goes in and out of the nucleus. |
Endoplasmic reticulum |
The transportation system of the cell |
Vacuoles |
Hold water and waste—plants usually have larger ones, animals smaller ones |
Cell membrane |
The thin skin that surrounds the cell and controls what goes in and out of the cell. |
Cell wall |
The stiff, outer, nonliving section of a plant cell--it give the cell support and protection. |
Cytoplasm |
The thick jelly-like substance that fills in between all the cell parts. It is always moving and moves the parts around. |
Mitochondria |
The part that breaks apart the food and supplies energy to the cell. |
Chloroplasts |
The part that captures the sun's energy and turns it into energy the plant can use. |
Ribosomes |
Small grain-like organelles where proteins are made. |
Golgi bodies |
Package up extra proteins or carbohydrates that are not needed by the cell and get them ready to be sent to other cells. |
Lysosomes |
These would not be in most plant cells. They are places where digestion takes place. They digest bits of food, old cell parts and old dead cells. |
