Plasma membrane

Boundary between cell and its environment. Regulates what comes in and out. Consists of lipids and protein

Extracellular fluid

Helps control the movement of water and electrolytes through out the body

Binding site

Hormones bind to the receptors on the cells surface

Cholesterol

Helps maintain the fluidity of cell membrane and secure protein

Glycolipids

Has a carbohydrate sugar chain attached. Helps to provide energy and cellular recognition

Phospholipid

Building block for cell membrane. Forms a lipid bilayer

Phospholipid bilayer

Marks boundaries of the organelles. Composed of two layers of fat cells

Glycoprotein

Are proteins that have sugars. Helps with protecting cells, communication between cells and the reproduction system

Transport protein

Are used to move substances back and fourth across the cell membrane

Protein filaments

Long chain of proteins. They act as a stable scaffold for cells

Receptor protein

Transmits signals from outside the cell to inside

Cytoplasm

A jelly like fluid. Present in all cells, keeps them all in there place

Recognition protein

ID tags, identifies cells to the body's immune system

Fluid mosaic model

Mixed composition of lipids and proteins.
