What is an Organelle? |
Parts of the cell that performs a specific function for that cell Eg. Nucleus |
What is a Prokaryotic Cell? |
Prokaryotic cells have no nucleus presend and do not have membrane-bound organelles such as nuclei |
What is Eukaryotic cell? |
The nucleus is present and membrane-bound organelles such as nuclei are present |
What does mitochondria do? |
They provide energy to the cell through respiration (reason why they are called the power house of the cell) |
What does the mitochondria have? |
It has a double membrane bound organelles and has its own loop of DNA |
How does energy in the mitochondria work? |
Cells with lots of mitochondria (muscles) produce alot of energy Cells with little mitochondria (fat in humans) produce less energy |
Infoldings in mitochondria |
Inner membranes of the mitochondria produce energy especially in the foldings The more foldings the more energy is released |
What is Chloroplasts? (Plant only) |
They are a green structure in plants in which photosynthesis takes place |
What does chloroplast have? |
They are surrounded by double membranes and have membrane stacks which contain green pigment chlorophyll They also have a loop of DNA |
