Breathing

Breathing is the movement In animals which brings oxygen to a respiratory surface for gaseous exchange and removal of carbon dioxide

Gaseous exchange

Is the diffusion of oxygen into, and carbon dioxide out of an organism at a respiratory surface

Respiratory surfaces

Small unicellular organisms have a large surface area to volume ratio. Gaseous exchange therefore occurs efficiently across the entire body surface. In larger organisms with a small surface to volume ratio, specialized respiratory surfaces have developed which provide large surface area for gaseous exchange. In many animals the respiratory surfaces form part of the respiratory system
