C. Contact (HV/AC/OT) a face to face meeting with an individual who appears to be eligible to make application for enlistment that results in the recruiter's getting a name and sufficient information for follow up. Talking to a person but not getting name, plus locator information, is not a contact.

DEP

Direct Mail

A personal mail out of promotional material from a central distribution point.

EST

Home Visit (HV)

Defined as a visit to a house that you have never visited before to try to contact an individual that you have never talked to. A HV is not counted if you have spoken to the individual on the phone, met with the individual before, or has agreed to a visit. An appointment made at the prospect's home as a result of a previous contact is never a home visit.

Interview

A face to face sales presentation with a screened and basically qualified prospect. An interview only occurs after the recruiter has screened the prospect. A sales presentation given to an unqualified individual is not an interview, just a waist of time. An interview is carried for 90 days. The interview is dropped after a 90 day period.

IRT

Itinerant Recruiting Trip. Scheduled visits by a recruiter to a designated location other than a RS/PCS for the purpose of recruiting.

Lead/Prospect

All terms that apply to a name, which may, or may not, have a phone number / address attached. Leads / suspects / prospects all require the recruiter to make the initial contact with the individual. The names come in the form of lists, return cards, and referrals from local contacts, poolees, etc.

Mission

Is the number of new contracts to be written by Officer selection Officers of recruiters and placement of these contracts by category into the designated month/months so that the RS can achieve its shipping quota.

A New Working applicant is an individual who qualifies as a working applicant, is picked up by the RSS, is reported to the operations Officer and is accepted by the Operation's Officer. An NWA may also be an individual who was previously dropped as a Working Applicant either by the RSS or by the Operations Officer but becomes reaccepted by the Operations Officer. An individual will not be counted as a New Working Applicant twice within a 90 day period (this maintains the integrity of the data used in computing your activity analysis). An NWA can be carried for 90 days. NWA's are dropped after a maximum period of 90 days to maintain the integrity of data.

Priority Prospect Card

A PPC is the direct result of a request for additional information about the Marine Corps from media advertising or the Direct Mail Program. These PPC's are distributed through the electronic Priority Prospect Card (ePPC) system, daily. Leads or PPC should be vigorously worked. A PPC is generally a "hot lead" so the faster you act the better the results. A PPC or lead is useless without your follow up.

Pool Attrition

The number of pool discharges divided by the total number of gross new contracts for a specified period. This is expressed as a percentage.

Referral

An individual identified by name and reported to a recruiter as a prospect for enlistment. A referral can come from contacts, poolees, parents, and Command Recruiters. A referral card will accompany all SMCR and I-I referrals.

Screening

Screening is the process of weeding out those prospects not qualified for enlistment. Individuals that a recruiter meets, keeps appointments with, or who walk into the recruiter's office, must all be screened before conducting an interview. Screening a prospect before presenting a sales presentation will ensure that the recruiter does not wast time selling a prospect who is not qualified.

Source (SRCE)

The name, agency or program that produced a lead. In other words, WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM? (Not who "influenced" the applicant to enlist). The back of the current S&R Sheet has a list of source codes.

Telephone Call (TC)

This is defined as the act of calling a prospect on the phone to schedule an appointment. This includes all phone calls from all types of lists and prospect applicant cards. A phone call is counted any time you dial a prospect's number and reach someone at that number, receive no answer, or reach an answering machine. A phone call is NOT counted if you get a busy signal or if the line is disconnected. Additionally, TC is NOT counted if an interview was already conducted within 90 days with the individual.
