The miracle of Dunkirk |
-british troops retreated to the coastal beaches on the english channel at dunkirk -300 000 soldiers were trapped on the beaches easy target for the germans -hitler failed to send troops into Dunkirk instead relying on Luftwaffe to destroy the british. this was a major blunder -Operation Dynamo was an attempt rescue for the stranded troops and in the end the military could only save a tenth of the troops -lots of different fishing boats and trawlers came across the channel to help the soldiers escape -this made the retreat seem like a victory - it became known as the miracle of Dunkirk |

The battle of Britain |
-is the name given to the air campaign waged against the german airforce (luftwaffe) against the united kingdom during the summer and autumn of 1940 - the objective of the campaign was to gain air superiority over the royal airforce - was the first major campaign to be fought entirely of airforces and was the largest and most sustained aerial bombing campaign up to that date -the german attack was called off - the failure of germany to defeat britain in their airforce was a major turn in the war -eventually the luftwaffe turned back to attacking areas of political significance and using terror bombing tactics
