Sustainable Ecosystem

The ability to maintain an ecological balance

Biodiversity

The variety of life in a particular ecosystem; alsoknown as biological diversity

Equilibrium

Describes the state of an ecosystem withrelatively constant conditions over a period of time

Habitat

Place where an organism or a biological population normally lives or occurs

Niche

The function a species serves in its ecosystem,including what it eats, what eats it, and how it behaves

Autotroph (producer)

An organism that makes its own energy-rich foodcompounds using the Sun’s energy

Heterotroph (consumer)

An organism that obtains its energy from consuming other organisms

Herbivore

An animal that feeds solely on plants (ex. deer)

Carnivore

An animal that feeds solely on other animals (ex. tigers)

Omnivore

An animal that feeds on both plants and other animals (ex. bears)

Decomposer
