Because sperm needs to swim in liquid, not air. |

What is the difference between Monotremes and Marsupials? |
Monotremes lay eggs so they go through EXTERNAL Fertilization, outside of the mothers uterus. Marsupials develop their young inside the mother uterus. This is INTERNAL fertilization. |
