Sequence of digestion |

Teeth |
Incisors - Cutting slicing and biting Canines - Grip stab and tear Molars - crush and chew PreMolars - crush and chew |
Mechanical Digestion |
Carried out by teeth, results in smaller particles of food |
Chemical Digestion |
Takes place due to the action of Amylase, found in saliva. Saliva consists of water, salts, mucous, and Amylase, and lysozyme. |
Peristalsis |
Peristalsis moves food through the alimentary canal. In the stomach it helps to break down food mechanically. In the small intestine it moves food forward and back. In the large intestine it forces water into the rectum |
Role of Fibre |
Fibre absorbs and stores water causing waste to expand and muscles to contract. |
Food in the Stomach |

Role of Pancreas |
-Secretes Insulin and digestive materials which form pancreatic juice Starch ______ amylase_____ maltose Lipids________lipase_______ fatty acids and glycerol |
Role of Liver |
- Produces Bile - Breaks down amino acids to form urea - Stores vitamins - Produces heat Bile: Salts pigments and water Made in the liver, stored in the gall bladder Emulisfies lipids |
