Atom: the smallest unit of matter that cannot be broken down by chemical means. Different from a cell

Element: A pure substance made of only one kind of atom. Examples are seen on the Periodic table of elements

Chemical bond: A substance made of the joined atoms of two or more atoms. Examples include: hydrogen bond, ionic bonds and covalent bonds

Hydrogen bond: A weak chemical attraction between polar molecules. Polar molecules are molecules with an unequal distribution of electrical charges

Compound: A substance made of the joined atoms of two or more different elements.

Matter: is anything that has mass and takes up space

Covalent bond: form when two or more atoms share electrons to form a molecule

Molecule: A group of atoms held together by covalent bonds

Acid: Compounds that form hydrogen bonds when dissolved in water. Their pH is less than 7.

Adhesion: An attraction between different substances.

Base: Compounds that reduce the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution. Their pH is more than 7

Capillary action: the ability of a liquid to flow in narrow spaces without the assistance of, and in opposition to,external forces like gravity

Cohesion

An attraction between substances of the same kind

Polarity

the ability or characteristic that produces unequal physical effects at different points in a body or system, as a magnet or storage battery

surface tension

Surface tension is the elastic tendency of liquids which makes them acquire the least surface area possible. This makes surfaces hard to break.

Chemical Reaction

a process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another.

pH

A numeric scale that helps to determine of a substance is more acidic or alkaline (Base)

Isotope

each of two or more forms of the same element that contain equal numbers of protons but different numbers of neutrons in their nuclei, and hence differ in relative atomic mass but not in chemical properties; in particular, a radioactive form of an element.
