Density of Object
(D=M/V)
Density is found by dividing the mass by the volume. |
Volume of Object
How much space an object fills. Volume measurement of liquids is milliliter (ml).
Mass of an object
How much matter there is in something. The gram (g) is the basic unit of measurement in the Metric System.
Meniscus
Read the bottom of the meniscus in a graduated cylinder.
deka (DA)
equals 10^1 (or 1 with one zero) 10.
Hecto (h)
equals 10^2 ( or 1 with two zeros) 100.
kilo (k)
10^3 or (1 with three 0's) 1 000.
mega (M)
10^6 or (1 with six 0's) 1 000 000.
giga (G)
10^9 (or 1 with nine 0's) 1 000 000 000.
tera (T)
10^12 or ( 1 with 12 zeros) 1 000 000 000 000.
Peta (P)
10^15
exa (E)
10^18.
zetta (Z)
10^21
yotta (Y)
10^24
Moving decimal point right or left
If the word ends in "a" (except for "hecto" and "kilo") , the zeros are added to the power of 10 and the decimal point moves right. If the word ends in "I" or "o", the zeros are subtracted to the power of 10 and the decimal point moves to the left. the power of 10 goes by 1-3 and then counts by multiples of 3. The zeros are added to " 1" based on their power #. ex: 10^3=1 000. With negative powers, the decimal point moves left the # of powers. ex: 10^-3= 0.001 from 1.0

Tissues definition
The next size up from cells. A group of cells (all the same type) that work together for a specific function or functions.
Shape of Cells (simple 1 and stratified "more than 1")
Squamous
Cuboidal Columnar |
Squamous
squished or flattened shaped
Cuboidal
cube shaped
Columnar
column shaped (like columns on a house) IIIII
Simple
1 layer thick
Stratified
more than 1 layer thick
Pseudo stratified columnar epithelium
columns that look more than 1 layer thick, but are actually only 1 layer squished together to look so. psuedo means "false" or look like more than 1 but not.
Stratified "squamous" (more than 1 flat shapes) examples
skin, esophagus, and vagina
simple squamous ( only 1 flat shape)
lung
simple culumnar
stomach and intestines
