A/P Eng Sw

(button)

Push-inhibited on GND with Flaps out of up.

-when either F/D sw is ON, A/P engages in the selected modes

-when both F/D sw OFF, A/P engages in; HDG or TRK mode, and V/S or FPA.

Illum (white) all operating autopilots are engaged.

F/D Switches

F/D Switches

L sw-L PFD and HUD

ON-on GND both F/D sw OFF, first ON arms F/D in TO/GA on PFD and HUD.

-inflight A/P OFF both F/D OFF first F/D ON activates F/D in; HDG or TRK HOLD and V/S or FPA

-inflight with A/P ON and both F/D OFF first F/D activates in current selected mode.

OFF-F/D steering indications not displayed, unless

-a TO/GA switch is pushed when airspeed is >80 knots and flaps out of up.

A/P DISENGAGE SW

A/P DISENGAGE SW

Pull down-with A/P engaged;

-disengages all A/Ps, displays the EICAS warning AUTOPILOT DISC, sounds aural warning, illums master warning lights

-prevents A/P engagement

-Displays EICAS advisory NO AUTOLAND

-disables bank angle protection

-exposes amber and black stipes

Lift up-enables A/P engagement, enables bank angle protection, hides amber and black stripes.

A/T ARM Sw

A/T ARM Sw

L controls Left engine.

L and/or R- arms selected A/T for mode activation. Selected A/T activates auto when AFDS mode (VNAV, FLCH or TO/GA) selected.

OFF- disconnects the selected A/T

-prevents selected A/T activation

CLB/CON Thrust Sw

CLB/CON Thrust Sw

On the GND and below 400' during T/O, sw is inop.

Push-with 2 eng operating, changes eng THR LMT to the FMC selected climb THR.

-with one eng operating, changes THR LMT to max cont (CON)

A/T Engage Sw
(button)

A/T Engage Sw

(button)

Push- above 400', with A/T ARMED, activates the appropriate A/T mode for the selected AFDS pitch mode, in no pitch mode, in the SPD mode.

Illum (white) an A/T mode is activated.

IAS/MACH Reference Sw
(Button)

IAS/MACH Reference Sw

(Button)

Push-alternately changes IAS/MACH window to IAS and MACH displays (MACH must be >.4)

inoperative when window is blank.

IAS/MACH Window

IAS/MACH Window

Upper is selected, lower is uplinked ATC speed clearance.

Blank when FMC controls speed. When changing from TO/GA to V/S, FPA or ALT window auto displays; Flap placard SPD -5 knots (flaps extended)

250 knots (flaps up), speed value entered in the IAS/MACH window after TO/GA was pushed.

Range display IAS 100-399 KIAS, .400-.950 M

Upper line 200, lower blank when power applied.

During climb, auto change IAS to M at .84 M

During descent, auto change to IAS at 310 K

IAS/MACH Selector

IAS/MACH Selector

Rotate-sets the speed on the upper line for both PFD and HUD. -inoperative when window is blank

Push-with VNAV active, alternately opens or closes window; when the window is closed, FMC computed target speed is active and displays on PFD and HUD

-when window is open, FMC speed-intervention is active and the IAS/MACH selector may be used to set desired speed.

Uplink Transfer (XFR) sw
(button)

Uplink Transfer (XFR) sw

(button)

Push-Transfers the IAS or MACH value from the lower line to the upper line. If the upper line was blank/closed, it now opens to the uplinked ATC value. Lower line blanks after the transfer.

ATC Uplinked Speed Clearance

ATC Uplinked Speed Clearance

ATC uplink function is always enabled. For immediate clearances, pushing the datalink ACCEPT switch displays the clearance IAS/MACH value in the lower line in the window. Pushing the datalink CNCL switch removes teh clearance from the lower line.

LNAV SW (button)

LNAV SW (button)

Push-arms, selects or disarms LNAV mode.

LNAV activates >50'RADALT and; -within 2.5 NM of active leg

-when outside 2.5 NM, and intercept heading to active leg.

LNAV maintains current heading when;

passing last active waypoint

passing last waypoint prior to a DISCON

passing last route offset waypoint

on GA with a valid missed approach path, LNAV activates at 50'RADALT for F/D only or 200'RADALT with A/P engaged.

LNAV is deactivated by engaging any other roll mode or by disengaging the A/P and turning both F/Ds off.

THR-adjust thrust to maintain climb/descent rate required by pitch mode.

THR REF-displayed on EICAS

IDLE-while throttles are moving to IDLE, followed by HOLD mode

HOLD-A/T servos are inhibited. pilot can set THR manually.

SPD-A/T maintains command speed. can be set by MCP, FMC on CDU Climb, Cruise or Descent page. A/T will not exceed limit on EICAS

APP Mode deselects (3)

-pushing APP when abv 1500' RADALT

-with LOC captured and G/S armed; by selecting HDG/TRK SEL or HDG/TRK HOLD

-with LOC and G/S captured; by selecting T/GA

"

During autoland, FLARE displays below what radio altitude?

1500 feet
"

What are the methods of disconnecting the autopilot?

"
"control wheel disconnect switches, control column, control wheel, the MCP autopilot disconnect bar, rudder pedals (pedals only disengage autopilot with LAND 2 or LAND 3 annunciated.)"
The localizer or final approach course mode cannot capture if the intercept angle exceeds?
120 degrees.
"On approach with crosswind requiring more than 10 degrees of crab angle, when does runway alignment occur?"
500 feet AGL
"In flight, when is Takeoff/Go-around armed?"
flaps are out of up or glideslope captured
What will cause the EICAS caution message AUTOPILOT to display?
"

One or more of these occur:

-The autopilot is in a degraded mode

-The engaged roll mode is failed
-The engaged pitch mode is failed
-The autopilot is in flight envelope protection

When does the autopilot add rudder commands during flight?
only during an autopilot approach and landing
What occurs when the Approach (APP) switch is selected?
arms the pitch and roll modes after an approach procedure selection is made in the FMC. Either localizer or glideslope/glidepath can be captured first.
What MCP parameters CANNOT be preselected prior to autopilot and/or flight director activation?
vertical speed and flight path angle
"Pushing either TO/GA switch on the ground below 50 knots and flaps out of up, ...
Activates autothrottle in THR REF mode at thrust limit selected on THRUST LIMIT page.
When does the FLARE (active) green FMA display on the PFD?
during autoland between 40 and 60 feet RA
What do approaches flown with IAN procedures use for vertical path guidance?
FMC computed glidepath (G/P)
How is LNAV disarmed?
"by pushing the LNAV switch a second time, or by arming LOC/FAC or APP"
What happens when the Flight Level Change (FLCH) switch is selected?
The autothrottle advances or retards thrust levers to provide 500 FPM vertical speed for each 1000 feet altitude change.
What are the indications that the autopilot has automatically disengaged?
"The EICAS warning message AUTOPILOT displays, the Master Warning lights illuminate and the aural siren sounds."
What occurs if a TO/GA switch is not pushed below 50 knots?
autothrottle operation is inhibited until reaching 400 feet altitude
"Pushing a TO/GA switch after lift-off with takeoff thrust limit displayed, ...?"
"

-removes takeoff and climb derates and assumed temperature thrust reduction

-activates autothrottle in THR REF mode

-disarms AFDS modes
