AC power sources

2 engine driven IDGs

- 3 phase, 115V

- supplies associated bus

- when 1 gen inop, can supply essential and non-essential loads to opposite side bus

APU gen

- can pwr both transfer buses (ground or flight)

External power

*different sources cannot be paralleled

*connecting a different source auto disconnects existing pwr source

Buses on ea system

- transfer bus

- main bus

- 2 galley buses

- ground service bus

*AC standby bus receives pwr from Transfer bus 1

Source failure/disconnect

- bus tie breakers allow transfer bus to be pwrd by other available source

- both transfer buses can be supplied with pwr from 1 engine gen or from APU

-if 1 gen fails, system auto sheds loads in increments to bring total load w/in capacity

1) galleys and main bus on Transfer bus 2

2) galleys and main bus on transfer bus 1

DC pwr supply

- 3 TRUs supply 28V DC

- receive pwr from AC transfer buses

- total DC load can be suppl by any 2 TRUs

- DC bus 1 & 2 and DC standby bus

- battery

- 24V NiCad

ILS redundancy

Cross bus relay opens at GS capture (FD or AP ops), prevents single bus failure from affecting both nav receivers and FCCs

Standby power

- 24V DC battery

- if no other source (engine/APU) avail

- pwrs essential systems

- pwr to:

- DC standby bus

- AC standby bus (through static inverter)

- battery bus

- hot battery bus

- switched battery bus

- can provide standby pwr up to 60mins

DRIVE (overhead)

- Gen disconnected through gen drive disconnect switch

- IDG failure

- Engine shutdown

- IDG auto disconnect due high oil temp

STANDBY PWR OFF (overhead)

- AC standby bus unpwrd

- DC standby bus unpwrd

- Battery bus unpwrd

GRD POWER available

- illum when pwr is connected and of sufficient quality

- ON removes other pwr sources from buses & pwrs AC transfer buses

BUS TRANS switch

AUTO - permits bus tie breakers to operate to maintain pwr to AC transfer buses from any operating source

OFF - isolates AC transfer buses 1 & 2

- DC cross tie relay open to isolate DC buses

TRANSFER BUS OFF (overhead)

Associated transfer bus not pwrd

SOURCE OFF (overhead)

No source has been manually selected to pwr associated transfer bus

GEN OFF BUS (overhead)

IDG not supplying pwr to related transfer bus

APU GEN OFF BUS (overhead)

APU gen is available but not supplying pwr to a bus

GEN switches

ON - removes other pwr source from AC transfer bus, closes gen CB

OFF - disconnects IDG from related transfer bus by opening CB

When selecting GRD PWR ON

Extinguishes:

SOURCE OFF

TRANSFER BUS OFF

STANDBY PWR OFF

APU start

- APU switch to Start (hold 1 sec)

- ACT fuel pumps ON

- APU GEN OFF BUS light illum

- Both APU GEN BUS switches ON

- Extinguishes SOURCE OFF, TRANSFER BUS OFF, STANDBY PWR OFF
