What did the Spanish want/need when they came to the Valley of Mexico?

They came for god- to spread the word of god. Gold-after the "Reconquista" the Spanish had no money so they needed money/gold. Glory- they left with thoughts of if they brought back lots of gold they would be rewarded greatly and be knighted.
