An attempt is when a person tries to commit an offence but fails to as defined in the Criminal Attempts Act 1981

Under s1(1), AR of an attempt is an act that is more than merely preparatory to commission the offence. This means ‘embarking on the crime proper’ (Jones, Gullefer). APPLY
