What are foraging societies?

Small groups of people traveling following plants and animals. They were at the mercy of nature. They had no permanent shelters and few personal belongings.


What are pastoral societies?

Domesticated animals. Used small scale agriculture to supplement food supply and had an extended family system. Women had largely no rights. They didn't settle because they were moving along with grazing areas.


What is the Neolithic Revolution?

The agricultural revolution. People still lived in small groups until a few centuries later. These people finally began to think of property ownership.

What is the most important consequence of agriculture?

A food surplus. It allowed people to work on other things, such as building towns. Irrigation also led to even more complexity, which would lead to more agricultural advancements, and so on.

What was the impact of agriculture on the environment?

Villages altered landscapes, diverted water, cleared land for farming. This made the world's land reconfigured to fit the needs of growing populations. Animals were also used as agricultural labor, increasing output.
