Shay's rebellion
(what lead to shay’s rebellion:) Massachusetts’s government raised taxes to pay off its debts instead of issuing paper money. These taxes fell most heavily on poor farmers in the west part of the state. This caused many farmers to loose their farms. (The impact of Shay’s rebellion:) Shay’s rebellion prevented farm foreclosures. This allowed America’s leaders to realize that the government had to be altered to secure lives and property.
Land Ordinance of 1785
: set the western territories into a grid system and made it so western lands were to be states not colonies. One section of each grid was devoted to education.
Proclamation of 1763
The Royal proclamation of 1763 prohibited colonists from settling west of an imaginary line running north to south along the Appalachian Mountains.
