Hydrocarbons

Alkanes and Alkenes are types of hydrocarbons

Alkanes

Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons as they do not contain a carbon carbon double bond

Alkenes

Alkenes are unsaturated hydrocarbons as do contain a carbon carbon double bond

Stereoisomerism

A compound can either be Cis (Z) or Trans (E). If within a carbon chain the same attachment appears on the same carbon, the compound will be classed as a Cis compound. On the other hand if within a carbon chain different attachments appear on either of the carbon, the compound will be classed as a Trans compound
