bones of pectoral girdle
scapula and clavicle
Clavicle
composed of sternal and acromial ends. articulates with manubrium of sternum and the acromion of scapula.
Conoid tubercle
rough attachment points on the posterior acromial end of the clavicle.
Costal Tuberosity
rough attachment point on the posterior sternal end of the clavicle.
Scapula
Consists of the spine and the acromion that articulates with teh clavicle; a coracoid process and a suprascapular notch that allows for the passage of the suprascapular nerve. The Glenoid cavity is located on the lateral angle and articulates with the humerus. Three flat regions of the scapula are the anterior region called the scapular fossa. The posterior regions: superior to the spine is the suprespinous fossa and inferior to the spine is the infraspinous fossa.
Scapular spine
ridge of bone on the posterior aspect of the bone.
Acromion
A continuation of the spine, articulates with the clavicle.
Suprascapular Notch
Along the superior border of the scapula and allows passage of the suprascapular nerve.
Glenoid Cavity
Located at the lateral angle and articulates with the humerus.
Scapular Fossa
The smooth anterior region that the subscapular muscle overlies.
Supraspinous Fossa
A depression located superior to the spine on the scapula. Posterior side.
Infraspinous Fossa
Broad flat region inferior to the spine on the scapula. Posterior Side.
Humerus
Largest and longest bone of the upper appendages.
Lateral proximal region of humerus
the head
greater tubercle
lateral proximal region
lesser tubercle
anteromedially proximal region of the humerus.
intertubercular sulcus
depression that tendon of bicep attaches
anatomical neck
between tubercles and the head of the humerus. marks location of where the epiplyseal plate (growth plate) was.
Surgical neck
the narrowing of the bone immediately distal to the tubercles. transition from head to shaft.
shaft
long slender region between distal and proximal regions
deltiod tuberosity
roughed area extending along the lateral surface of the humerous shaft. deltiod muscle attaches here.
radial groove
located adjacent to the deltoid tuberosity on the shaft. the radial nerve and some blood vessels run here.
