- Given PO for : Genital herpes, oro-labial herpes and primary VZV
- Given IV for : HSV encephalitis, Neonatal HSV, Immunocompromised patients
- Given in topical form for : Keratoconjunctivitis
Valacyclovir (Herpes)
- Pro-drug of acyclovir
- Only PO
Penciclovir/Famcyclovir (Herpes)
- Famcyclovir is the prodrug of Pencyclovir
- Same mechanism of action as acyclovir
- Used for : Genital herpes, oro-labial HSV, primary VZV or VZV zoster
Gancyclovir (Cytomegalovirus)
- Used for patients suffering from : CMV retinitis, CMV pneumonitis and Congenital CMV
Valgancyclovir (Cytomegalovirus)
- Prodrug of gancyclovir
Interferon-α (Hepatitis B virus and Hepatitis C virus)
- No direct antiviral action
- Acts via host cells activation
- Given by injection
- Given in patients suffering from : Chronic HBV and acute or chronic HCV
Ribavirin (Chronic HCV)
- Provoques phosphorylation by host cells
Nucleoside/nucleotide inhibition (Chronic HBV)
- Given orally
- Works by phophorylation
