Linguistics
Broad study of human communication spoken, nonverbal, and written
Cultural and Social Anthropology
Study of human culture and society. Can't study one without the other.
Culture
Human learned behavior. Not only formal learning, but also subconcience learning. All human behavior is learned.
Society
A group of human beings who live in an environment and are dependent on one another through a common shared culture. Most societies live among other societies. Members of a society share a common culture. No society without society is an abstraction. Society without culture can't be.

Why to study anthropology
1) Knowledge for its own sake. It saves info about other cultures and the past. all cultures everywhere are changing rapidly. Anth helps to perserve it. Anth helps to transmit info. Anth presumes that there are regularities of culture and society. Things dont happen randomly. They happen regularly
2) They can be discovered and info can be used to decrease the amount of human suffering. human behavior is one of the most complicated things in the world
3)Anth encourages cultural relativity. Its point of view characterized by tollerance or objectivity.
