What is formed during glycolysis of one glucose molecule? |
The glycolysis of one glucose molecule forms 2 ATP, 2 NADH, 2 H+, and 2 Pyruvic acid molecules |
What does the processing of pyruvic acid produce? |
The formation of coenzyme A from 2 pyruvic acid molecules produces 2 acetyl coenzyme A, 2 CO2, 2 NADH and 2 H+ |
What is produced in each turn of the Krebs cycle? |
Each turn of the Krebs cycle forms -2 ATP -4 CO2 -6 NADH -2 FADH -6 H+ |
What is produced by the electron transport chain for each glucose molecule?
32-34 ATP 6 x O2 ----> 6 x H2O |
What is the total amount of products formed from each glucose molecule? |
36-38 ATP
6 x O2 ----> 6 x H2O 16 x NADH 4 x FADH 10 x CO2 |
What are the stages of glucose catabolism? |
1. Glucose uptake into cells 2. Glycolysis 3. Pyruvate oxidation 4. Kreb's cycle 5. Electron transport chain |
What is used up and produced during glycolysis? |
2 x ATP is used 4 x ATP and 2 x NADH is produced (as well as H+) Net production of ATP = 2 |
What happens to pyruvic acid when there is on oxygen? |
When there is no oxygen, pyruvate is converted to lactic acid which regenerates NAD+, which allows glycolysis to continue without pyruvate oxidation. Only 2 ATP are produced from one glucose if it is done anaerobically. |
What is used and produced during pyruvate oxidation? |
1 x pyruvate is used up 1 x Acetyl CoA is produced 1 x CO2 is produced 1 x NADH and H+ is produced |
What does the Kreb's cycle begin and end with? |
Oxaloacetic acid |
What is used up and produced during the Kreb's cycle? |
1 x Acetyl CoA is used along with cycled oxaloacetate, NAD+ and FAD 2 x CO2 is produced 1 x ATP is produced 3 x NADH + H+ is produced 1 x FADH2 is produced |
