George Washington:
He was the firstpresident of the U.S. GeorgeWashington was a 21 yr old surveyor and a major in the Virginia militia. Hehead many other positions including Commander and Chief of the SecondContinental army.
Gettysburg:
Gen. Lee (Union) fought with Gen. Meade(Confederate who replaced Gen. Hooker) in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 1,1863. It was the most decisive battle of the Civil war. the Union won thebattle. Over 7,000 Americans died at this battle and 44,000 were injured.
James Madison:
Became 4th U.S. President in 1809. His hard work helped get the Constitution ratified. known as at the “Father of the Constitution.”
John Deere:
He patented the steel plow.
John Wilkes Booth:
He was a half-crazed actor who shot and killed President Lincoln in 1865 at the Ford’s Theatre.
Missouri Compromise:
This admitted two more states to the United States: Missouri andMaine. It provided a way to maintain the balance between free and slave states.Missouri was added as a slave state and Maine as a free state. It alsoprohibited slavery in the rest of the Louisiana Purchase north of the 36 30line. It passed both houses of Congress in 1820.

Wrote the Blue Backed speller. Sold more copies than any other bookexcept the Bible. They he published Webster’s Dictionary. Used scriptures toteach kids to spell.
Paul Revere:
ride through the night to warn thecolonists (minutemen) with William Dawesand Samuel Prescott rode with him. Colonists early warning system – lanterns inthe Old North Church belfry “One if by land, two if by sea”
Robert E. Lee:
He turned down President Lincoln to fight in the Union army and took a leading position in the Confederate Army. He surrendered to General Grant at the end of the war at Appomattox Court House in Virginia. Encouraged the South to let go of past hurts and works towards the future.

Isabella Baumfree, a former slave from NY that lectured against slavery under this name.
Stonewall Jackson:
A Confederate army leader that was accidental shot by one of his own men and later died from this.

After a series of court battles, the Cherokees were moved westalong with others. They called their long trip to Oklahoma the Trail of Tears.
