Converstions with Metric System
First Rule... Large to Small: Nx1000 EX: 1.5g = 1.5(1000) = 1500mg Small to Large: N/1000 Ex: 750mg = 750/100 = 0.75g |
Second Rule...
Large to Small: Move decimals 3 places to the RIGHT. Ex: 0.5mg = 500 mcg Small to Large: Move decimal 3 places to the LEFT. Ex: 200mcg = 0.2mg |
|
WEIGHT/ HEIGHT
1kg = 2.2 lbs 1inch = 2.54 cm |
Ex: 120 lb/2.2 = 54.54 = 54.5 kg
Ex: 45.6kg(2.2) = 100.32 = 100.3 lbs *Important: Always round weight conversions to the nearest 10th AND round at the point you convert. |

When calculation input and output...
Only items that are liquid at room temperature are calculated into intake. Ice cream and jello are liquid at room temperature and are thus calculated into intake. Pudding, cheese of any type, grits and fruit cocktail are examples of items that are NOT liquid at room temperature and are not calculated as intake. |
Your patient has the following intake: 1/4 pt of beer, 4oz of cottage cheese, 1/2 container of jello (150 mL/container), IV of 0.9% NS @ 125 ml/hr x 5hr and an 8oz glass of green tea.
Beer: 1/4ptx500mL = 125mL Jello: 1/2ptx150mL = 75mL IV: 125mLx5hr = 625mL Tea: 8ozx30mL = 240mL Total: 1065mL |
