Adaptation Strategies:

Solar Radiation Management:

Benefits:

- Geo-engineering involves ideas and plans to deliberately intervene in the climate system to counteract global warming.

- It is relatively cheap and could cool the Earth within months.

Costs:

- It would reduce but not eliminate the worst effects of Greenhouse Gases. Did example, it wouldn't alter acidification.

Water conservation and management:

Benefits:

- Less resources are used.

- Attitude change operates on a long term basis.

Costs:

- Efficiency and conservation cannot match increased demands for water.

Mitigation Strategies:

Carbon Taxation: Income from traffic charges to help reduce CO2 emissions in certain areas of cities- Central London. One difficulty is that not everyone is going to pay the charge as they can't afford it.

Renewable Switching: Move away from fossil fuels to low carbon energy sources e.g., UK's offshore wind turbines. One difficulty is that the cost of alternatives is high to produce and purchase.

Energy Efficiency: Technological improvements that vehicle engines are more efficient. One difficulty is that such technological improvements aren't cheap or time efficient.
